The shrill bell cuts through the silent air, and from somewhere deep in my conscious I will it to stop. What is that?

As I come to, I realize it’s the phone. Covered in the thin sheet, I’m laying on my stomach. Forcing my heavy eyelids open, I try to push my hair off my face as the noise subsides.

Attempting to focus, my bleary eyes open and meet Berkeley’s. He’s propped on one elbow, staring at me. The lower half of his body is covered in my same sheet, exposing his lean, muscled chest. He reaches out to help me with my hair placement.

“Good morning.” He smiles as he tucks a strand behind my ear.

“Good morning,” I reply before burying my face in my pillow to hide the delighted grin that is permanently affixed to my face. I can’t believe this is happening!

“Hey, no hiding. Come back here.” He moves to pull me toward him, but the shrill ringing begins again, halting his progress.

I look up from the pillow. “Are you going to get that?”

“I don’t really want to.” He sighs. “It’s not going to be good news. The only reason someone would be calling this early the morning after the Grammys is to tell me I did something wrong.”

The phone goes silent.

“Well, I’m going to have to disagree with that,” I tell him. “In my estimation, you definitely did everything right last night.” I slide across the bed until my body is pressed against his and accost his lips with a seductive kiss. Caught off guard, he kisses me back, running his fingers down the length of my body, igniting me in chills. I understand his surprise because I’ve just shocked myself. I’m not usually this aggressive, but the longing to touch him at all times is more than I can bear.

“Is that so?” he murmurs, pulling his face away from mine so he can see me. “Well, I’m not so sure about that. I think there might be a thing or two I could perfect.” His fingers trace the shape of my hip. “Maybe?”

“If you think you need more practice, I’m happy to oblige.” I smile.

The ringing starts again.

He groans. “I’d better get it. She won’t leave us in peace if I don’t.” He climbs out of bed and crosses the room to a small desk that holds a phone and a laptop.

I can’t help but wonder if “she” is Lisa Greene as I admire him from behind. He turns to face me as he picks up the phone, and I avert my eyes.

“Hello, Shar,” he says into the receiver, his tone flat. Before he can complete her name a female voice begins to screech on the other end of the line. He holds the phone away from his ear.

I can’t quite make out her words, but her pitch is definitely unhappy.

Pulling the phone back to his ear, he yawns. “No, I haven’t seen it.
